My pottery is strongly influenced by the details and craftsmanship of early artisans. Functional stoneware and porcelain forms are wheel thrown and hand trimmed. The pieces are then banded with colored slips and decorated with intricate trailed designs. Slip trailing is a method of decoration that has been around for thousands of years. Slip is watered down clay. Trailing is the process of applying the slip to the raw unfired form with a fine tipped bottle. The process creates a relief effect because the trailing builds clay on top of clay. Each piece is dried slowly, bisque fired, and then fired again with a clear glaze coat in an electric kiln at 2200F. Each piece is dishwasher, microwave, and food save.
